Interview with Jimmy Carter

Posted in Christ and Culture by sosipater on March 22, 2007

Perhap’s Georgia’s most famous politician is at it again, speaking about matters of politics and faith.  He was recently interviewed by MSNBC/Newsweek.

Pretty tame interview until the last Q & A.  I knew Mr. Carter was very liberal, but didn’t know quite how much until he said this.

Do you think a Mormon is a Christian?
Yes, I do. I have a cousin who is a Mormon and she married one of the Marriott family. I don’t know anyone who’s more devout in their faith than she and her family. I admire them very much.

Wow.  Comments like this right after quoting the Bible.  Is  devoutness the standard of whether someone is a Christian or not?  Devoted to what?

UPDATE:  Oh yea, the question where he says all the major world religions, including Christianity, are compatible, that was pretty bad too, and I guess his beliefs on Mormonism flow from that answer.

I read the interview. His church elders need to be contacted. He obviously needs discipline. I wonder if they are SBC? I can see the headlines now…..”Jimmy Carters church impeeches him!” Not! What a Quack!

    BJ,

To the best of my knowledge, Jimmy Carter was SBC, but he ( and I am assuming his church) withdrew and now are members of the more liberal Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. I don’t think you’ll find much church discipline going on in that denom/association, but this is just a guess.

Oh Well! It is painfully obvious that he either doesn’t understand Mormanism, or Christianity. The two are not compatable in anyway. Wasn’t he an UNC grad?
